Church History

New Beginnings Christian Ministries Church was initially formed as the New Beginnings Christian Ministries Fellowship on March 28, 1999, when former members of Greater Hopewell Methodist Church (Atlanta, Georgia) met at the Capitol Avenue high rise. Rev. Alfreda Young conducted the first worship service and Sis. Felicia Hamilton served as pianist.  When called upon, Rev. Dr. Lewis W. Jay and Rev. Nellie C. Williams provided ministerial support.

On April 4, 1999, the church’s name officially changed to “New Beginnings Christian Ministries Church.” Attorney Clifford Hardwich provided the legal services and support for the church in this endeavor. Attorney Hardwick continues to serve as our legal representative.

On April 18, 1999, the worship site moved to 2459 Roosevelt Highway in College Park, Georgia where Rev. Young graciously offered to share her facilities. The first service at this location was conducted by Rev. Nellie C. Williams.

On May 12, 1999, twelve people joined and re-committed their continual service to the glory of the Lord. Rev. Jerome Colbert, Rev. Johnnie Frank Ellison, Rev. Lewis W. Jay, Rev. Nellie C. Williams, and Rev. Alfreda Young became the ministerial staff and Bro. Purcell Floyd served as the musician.

In August 1999, Rev. Dr. Lewis W. Jay agreed to serve as Supporting Minister. Rev. Jay is a high spirited leader with a reputation as a Gospel Preacher, Elder and a church builder. He has over fifty years of pastoral and leadership experience. The Faith Walkers learned, grew and acquired a sense of direction under his leadership. the Faith Walkers truly believed and continued toward their goal of their own sanctuary.

In December 1999, the members moved within the same complex and secured their own location instead of sharing one as their temporary worship site. Their renewed vision inspired them and fait and commitment kept them on their journey even when others did not understand why. The verse that sustained them was Matthew 21:22, “Whatever you ask for in prayer and faith, you will receive.

On May 6, 2001, a temporary worship site was secured, and the church moved to Grace Covenant Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia, where we shared their sanctuary for worship service.

In March 2002, Rev. Jay accepted the challenge and became Senior Pastor of New Beginnings and continued to serve using his gifts as a Pastor and a church builder. The church’s Bylaws were accepted September 2002.

Rev. Jay issued a challenge to the congregation during a congregational meeting about planting a church and the work that must be done to secure a church. he identified and recommended several persons to lead and work in these ministries of the church. They were all approved and they are still in place today. The Stewards and Church Council accepted the challenge and found the current location. However, the location needed a lot of renovations. The membership came together in unity and “prayed on the church walls” and God answered their prayers. God worked it out and the church became ours. The previous church minister stated that this land was Holy Ground, and that his congregation had buried scriptures all over the church grounds.

In February 2004, the current facilities were purchased and renovated in a very short period of time. The members cleaned and renovated the church going through may obstacles. Resources came from everywhere. God equipped us with what we needed when we needed it.

In March 2004, the first service was held in the new sanctuary. the members stepped out on faith and through their answered prayers, the fist step in this vision was done.

Over the period from 2004 to 2006, we used many great Pastors to lead and guide us. In June 2006 Rev. Roosevelt Holton was selected by a committee to serve as Pastor. Rev. Holton served his pastorate until June 2010.

Rev. Anthony Savage, Sr., served as Pastor from June 2010 to September 2014.

Pastor Keelan D. Chambers, Sr., accepted the call to serve as Senior Pastor in May 2015.
